    4 Numeral Value and Formula

    4.1 Numeral Value

    Using a suitable SI prefix multiply (e.g.…., f, n, μ, m, 1, k, M, G, T, P……) or a proper multiply of 10n when the numeral is not in the range of 0.100~999.

Using a blank space between every 3 digit capacities started from decimal point when the digit capacities (or the unit orders) large than 4, e.g.: “π= 3.141 592 6”,"n = 1 800 r/min"。

Each size value must have the unit; e.g.315 mm×295 mm×385 mm

The value adds the parenthesis if it has a positive/negative sign, the unit puts after the value; e.g.:(1300±100) r/min

    4.2 Formula

Use a professional formula editor or MathType for creating formulas instead of use the default formula editor of Word 2007.

The formulas should be consecutively numbered.

Each formula number should be located between parentheses in the right of the column.

The formulas should be typed in the middle of a column with suitable punctuate, which is followed at the basic level of the formula.

5 Standard and Italic Form for the Letter or Symbol

Make clear distinctions for physical variables, mathematical symbols etc. Authors should use standard and italic bold form to identify physical or mathematical variables.

Standard Symbol: Numerals, written language, chemical elements, operators, descriptive subscripts or superscripts in written language, and punctuations should be set in Roman type (upright) should also use standard form, e.g.:

cos, det, lim, max, min, sin, tan, log (included lg, ln, lb), d (for derivative),π(the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter), “e” or “exp” for the base of Natural logarithm, exponent, "T" for matrix turn.

    Also, mult-letters that denote variable(s) (e.g. SOC, …);

    SI prefix multiply ( f, n, μ, m, 1, k, M, G, T, P) and SI dimension units;…,

Italic symbol: Single letters that denote mathematical constants, variables, and unknown quantities should be set in italic type in text and in formulas (e.g. m, v, a, t …), Characteristic numbers e.g. Re, Pr, …, also should be set in italic form.

Boldface Italic:Variables are expressed using a single Roman alphabet or Greek letter in normal italic; and vectors, tensors, and matrixes in boldface italic.

6  Units of Quantities, Quantity Symbols, and Units Symbols

The International System of Units (SI) system should be used for units of measurement throughout the text, e.g. liter (L) for volume, kg for mass, except where non-SI units are available.

Using standard symbol should be defined at first mention in the text and used consistently throughout for the International System of Units (SI) system in any quantity (mathematical variables, physical variables).

Quantity symbols should be a single Latin alphabet or Greece alphabet in Italy style, which can be adding subscripts or followed by note in brackets.

There should be a gap with a space width between a numerical value of a quantity, e.g. "10 mm" for "ten millimeter".

    7 Illustration

    7.1 Preparation for an Illustration

High quality, color illustrations are favorably received.

A concise title is needed for each Figure typed in the middle of a column using 9 typography point, Arial style.

Each Figure should be cited in the nearest text before.

All the abbreviations, numbers and symbols in figures should be defined in the text before they are appeared in the figure.

Pay attention to line strengths and details (e.g. dotted or thin lines) in graphics, to avoid dissolve details after reduction or appearance of mosaic after enlarged to final printed size.

Illustrations can be made by Photoshop, and save it with "tif" format.

When illustration width is 8-16 cm, the illustration can occupy twin columns in a page. The figure width is not more than 8 cm when placed in single column of two columns per page.

There is one line blank for the top and bottom of each illustration.

    7.2 Illustration lines

Lines should have uniform width in the illustrations.

Lines can be differentiated into minor (light) lines with the width of 0.10-0.15 mm and main (heave) lines with the width of 0.20-0.25 mm. Heave lines is used for contour profile, curves; and light lines for the size lines, coordinate axis lines, as well as the pointing

    (guiding) lines.

It is width of 0.10-0.15 mm for the lead line, the same as horizontal line of 5 point style, no bend, no dark spot at the tip, no underline for guiding number.

    7.3 Illustration Captions

All captions (explanatory notes, numerical values and alphabet characters) are distinct typed in 8 typography point with Times Roman style.

Guiding lines have no arrow tip except for pointing special point(s). Arrow tip of a size line is solid.

Delete all unconcerned or unnecessary characters, images, and lines, e.g. the right frame, the upper frame, the net lines in a function coordinate graph.

All captions are 8 point while it is published. Use standard font, no variant font.

It is necessary to retype if there is a serious Mosaic at the original illustration.

There is no adhesion among illustrations, keep half space of a character at the least (1~2 mm). Interval should be widening.

It is 1/4 character at least for the width between illustration frame and inside script.

    7.4 Functional Graphs

    In the note of a coordinate axis, using the ratio of the Quantity Symbols and Unit Symbols, e.g. “p / MPa”,  “m / kg”, “V / m3”,  “a / [m·s3]”, ….

The mark bar should be placed with integral multiple of 2 or 5, or exact division by 2 or 5 for decimal coordinate system.

The scale bar (mark) should be draw out to the inner of the graph at the coordinate axis, that means towards to right for the vertical axis, and towards to up wards to the horizontal axis. The length is 1/2 or 2/3 of the length of the main scale bar for the secondary scale bar.

Numerical values and scale bars are placed near main scale mark only, there is no numerical value for the secondary scale bars.

    7.5 Scale

Using proportional scales with quantity and unit to express amplification for microcosmical figures or reduction for maps.

    7.6 Photographs and Gradation Graphs

Every image is distinct and clear.

Photographs or the gradation graphs have appropriate strength and contrast.

Photographs have a density of more than 600 dpi.

    8 Table

Each table should be cited in the nearest text before the table.

A concise title is necessary for each table.

A table has not more 48 characters when typed in single column of two columns per page in the middle of the column using typography 9 point Arial style.

A “three-line table” should be used for expressing data, which includes the solid lines at the top, at the bottom and between the first row (table title) and the table body (main part of data).

Using the ratio of the Quantity Symbols and Unit Symbols, e.g.“θ / ℃”, “T / K”, “P / kW” …, in the first row of the table.

It is on the left for all written language line.

    9 References

    9.1 Principle

Reference list is located at the end of the paper immediately after the conclusion paragraph of the main text.

Each reference should be cited in the main text. Using upper indicators index when cite a reference indirectly, writing a reference indicators index at the same level as text when it is cited directly.

The reference must be numbered consecutively by Arabic numerals, which should be listed in the same order as cited in the text. The numerals are put between square brackets.

The references listed should be essential, newly, formally published, cited in the text.

The reference should be 10 or more (at least 8 references for engineering paper; 12 pieces for academic paper; 15 pieces for review paper.)

All references should be written in English. Original entry in non-English has to be interpreted into English under a same cite number with the original entry annotating the original language between brackets

    9.2 Representation of Authors Name(s)

The first three authors names should be listed, if authors are more than 3; the fourth and more author(s) be omitted replaced by ", et al ". Put a comma "," between names without using "and".

Put Surname firstly, personal name latterly. The later one can be abbreviated to an abbreviated but without dot followed. Chinese authors name should not be abbreviated but with full-spelling, e.g. a Chinese author named WANG Dazhong
